Five students in Dr. Edward Pristach’s Introduction to Psychology class this semester investigated several potential community involvement and service learning opportunities and settled on helping a rescue shelter for animals. The students collected material and monetary donations over a three week period in April, collecting three boxes of items and approximately $200. After selecting the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter, the money was used to purchase additional items. The items were given to the shelter on May 1.
This service project was voluntary and student driven, meaning the students chose a community population, then an agency, and then determined what activity in which to engage.
