Hilbert Baseball player Jonathan Wilson spends a lot of time at Hafner Recreation Center when he is on campus. So the shift to working out from home could have been challenging. Luckily for Wilson, the sophomore infielder has a pretty sweet setup at home. Wilson said his workout routine is pretty consistent at home, though he is excited to get back to campus whenever it is safe to do so. We caught up with him to see how he is working to stay in shape while socially distancing.
Q: What is your typical workout routine since we have started distance learning
A: I have a home gym in my basement, so my training hasn’t really changed much. In fact, with this extra time I have been able to spend more time working out.
Q: Have you found that working out helps with any of the stir crazy feelings you might have being stuck at home?
A: I’ve really come to enjoy lifting over this past year, so being able to just listen to music and workout by myself has definitely kept me at ease.
Q: Have you come up with any creative workouts using household items or other things you have laying around?
A: I have all of the essential stuff to keep working on my hitting and fielding at home. I also have a field just a few minutes from my house where I can go to get some swings in and work on my fielding. I have a homemade set of our weighted bats that we use at school so I can keep up with our bat speed program and keep getting better.
Q: Being a baseball player, how much are you practicing with family members?
A: I’ve mostly just been practicing by myself, but I’ve gotten a few workouts in with my dad and my brother.
