On Wednesday, September 30th, Hilbert College hosted Franciscan Day of Caring, a campus-wide Day of Service to allow students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends to live out the Hilbert mission of serving and strengthening their communities. 250 Hilbert College community members joined in to make a difference on campus, and six students also tuned in virtually for the event.
The event for 2020 began with Hilbert’s annual Peace Walk, delivered in a virtual format. Participants had the opportunity to discover the life of St. Francis and its meaning for us today. Together, the Hilbert community explored one of the stories of St. Francis – Embrace the Leper, Meet the Sultan, Encounter the Wolf – through partnership with Erie County Restorative Justice Coalition, Erie Niagara Area Health Education Center, and Native American Community Services.
Upon conclusion of the Peace Walk, participants enjoyed lunch before moving on to the service activity for the remainder of the day.
Due to COVID-19, all Franciscan Day of Caring service activities were hosted on-campus.
Thank you to the students, staff, faculty members, and community partners who made this event a success!
